Our Programme Support & Knowledge (PSK) team forms a dynamic and essential unit within WaterAid UK’s International Programmes Department. This diverse group of over 20 technical specialists and advisors works across 17 countries in Africa and Asia, dedicated to delivering sustainable WASH solutions to the world’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Role Overview

As the Programme Support and Knowledge Director, you will provide strategic leadership to the PSK team and contribute to the Senior Management Team within the International Programmes Department. You will also represent WaterAid in global partnerships and collaborations, playing a pivotal role in advancing sustainable WASH practices and influencing sector-wide change.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and technical leadership to guide WaterAid UK’s international programmes.
Lead, mentor, and develop the high-performing Programme Support & Knowledge Team.
Drive organizational learning and strengthen knowledge management systems across country programmes.
Oversee capacity development initiatives and ensure effective programme support delivery.
Support fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and strategic communications.
Champion WaterAid’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and safeguarding in all programmes.
Engage in external partnerships and global networks to amplify WaterAid’s impact.

Your Profile and Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

Extensive and deep professional experience in WASH development across multiple countries and contexts.
Strong technical WASH expertise in areas such as sustainable rural or urban water supply, service delivery, and climate-resilient WASH systems.
Proven systems-thinking capability to support transformational WASH programming.
Demonstrated ability to lead strategic, high-impact initiatives within large international organizations.
Strong understanding of planning, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks in development contexts.
Experience in knowledge management, organizational learning, and capacity development.
Track record of developing funding propositions and engaging effectively with donors.
Proven leadership experience managing high-performing teams and supporting organizational change.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working proficiency in French, Portuguese, or Spanish
Experience leading or managing applied research in WASH or related sectors.
Background in establishing and promoting technical standards within the WASH sector.
