POSITION: Business Development Manager 

Job Description

The Methodist University of Ghana (MUG) is a prestigious institution committed to academic excellence and innovation. We are now seeking an accomplished and visionary Business Development Manager to lead the strategic expansion of our income-generating ventures. This senior role is perfect for a strategic leader who can transform commercial opportunities into sustainable revenue streams that support the university’s mission.

Your Role and Impact

As the Business Development Manager, you will serve as the driving force behind the university’s commercial activities. You will design and execute growth strategies, oversee diverse business units, and forge powerful partnerships. Your leadership will ensure our ventures achieve financial sustainability while maintaining the highest standards of quality and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass several critical areas of business leadership:

  • Strategic Planning and Growth: You will develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to grow the university’s commercial portfolio. This includes identifying new business opportunities aligned with institutional resources and conducting thorough feasibility studies to support innovation.
  • Operational Excellence: Overseeing daily operations across all university business units will be a central duty. You will coordinate intercampus activities to optimize resources, standardize practices, and enforce operational policies and quality control systems.
  • Financial Management: You will prepare detailed annual budgets, revenue forecasts, and financial reports. Monitoring income and expenditure is essential to ensure financial sustainability, while also identifying cost-saving initiatives and maintaining sound financial controls.
  • Revenue Generation and Partnerships: Developing effective marketing and sales strategies is crucial for enhancing product visibility and revenue. You will build strong customer relationships and distribution channels. Furthermore, you will forge strategic partnerships with government agencies, private sector entities, and development organizations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Leading and supervising unit heads and operational staff is a key responsibility. You will implement training programs to build staff capacity, foster a results-oriented culture, and promote teamwork and accountability.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensuring all business operations comply with national regulations and university policies is paramount. You will continuously monitor and improve product and service quality across all business lines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with university leadership and faculty is essential to align business goals with institutional priorities. You will also represent the university in relevant business forums and public engagements.

Your Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Agribusiness, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Seven to ten years of post-qualification experience in enterprise development or agribusiness management, with a proven record of leading successful ventures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and cost control.
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Previous experience working in an academic or multi-site institutional environment is a significant advantage. We are looking for a dynamic professional with strategic vision and the practical skills to execute complex business plans.
