GIZ Ghana is seeking a dynamic Technical Advisor to drive finance-ready urban infrastructure projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. About GIZ
As a federal enterprise operating in over 100 countries, GIZ supports the German Government in international cooperation for sustainable development. Our current focus in Sub-Saharan Africa centers on scaling climate-resilient urban infrastructure through the Covenant of Mayors (CoM SSA) initiative. We work directly with city authorities to enhance climate planning, mobilize finance, and implement transformative infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
The Technical Advisor will serve as the technical lead for developing and implementing bankable urban infrastructure projects. Your expertise will guide partners from concept to financial closure and implementation.
Your primary duties will include:
- Designing and structuring bankable business models for renewable energy systems, e-mobility infrastructure, and smart urban solutions
- Mapping and engaging financial institutions to mobilize investments through blended finance and public-private partnerships
- Conducting technical assessments and supervising feasibility studies for solar PV, energy storage, and clean transport projects
- Building institutional capacity through workshops and training programs on project preparation and financing
- Integrating smart technologies and digital monitoring systems into urban energy and mobility infrastructure
- Coordinating multi-stakeholder implementation while ensuring alignment with climate goals and funding frameworks
- Documenting and disseminating lessons learned and success stories to advance best practices in urban climate action
Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for candidates who combine technical expertise with strategic vision and partnership-building skills.
Essential Requirements:
- Advanced university degree in Energy Engineering, Sustainable Infrastructure, Urban Mobility, Economics, or Finance
- Minimum five years of professional experience in conceptualizing and implementing urban infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated ability to advise public sector institutions and private actors on renewable energy or mobility initiatives
- Comprehensive understanding of technical, institutional, and regulatory frameworks for energy and transport infrastructure
- Proven experience managing the full project lifecycle from feasibility analysis to performance monitoring
- Excellent coordination skills with outstanding capabilities in communication, facilitation, and consensus-building
- Full professional proficiency in English
Preferred Assets:
- Experience working with development finance institutions or climate finance mechanisms
- Technical expertise in solar energy technologies, energy efficiency measures, or electric mobility applications
- Competence in leveraging digital technologies and AI solutions for infrastructure planning and service delivery
- Additional language skills beyond English
