POSITION: Nursing Officer

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Nursing Officer for our Iduapriem Mine in Tarkwa. If you possess basic surgical skills, emergency response management competencies including BLS, ALS, or ATLS, plus the ability to handle fractures, burns, crush injuries, and stabilize patients before evacuation, this permanent role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic mining environment.

Your Mission

You will assist medical officers in the day to day running of the clinic on a shift basis. Your role includes assessing, planning, and carrying out clinical care for all clients reporting to the hospital, observing infection prevention and control protocols, supervising nursing assistants, and supervising housekeeping staff. Additionally, you will carry out post incident investigation tests, contribute to health promotion through patient education, use nursing informatics software, ensure privacy and security of protected health information, and perform other tasks assigned by the Senior Nursing Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans clinical care, supervision, incident response, health promotion, informatics, and confidentiality. Here is what you will tackle:

Clinical Care

  • You will assess, plan, and carry out clinical care to all clients reporting to the hospital.
  • Observing IPC protocols for patient and staff safety.

Supervision

  • You will demonstrate leadership and administrative capabilities in supervising nursing assistants.
  • Supervising housekeeping staff to maintain a relatively clean environment in accordance with ISO 14001 and WHO protocols.

Incident Response

  • You will carry out post incident investigation tests and report to all stakeholders.
  • Handling fractures, burns, crush injuries, and stabilizing patients before evacuation.

Health Promotion

  • You will contribute to health promotion through patient and client education and counselling on identified health needs.
  • Aligning with national health and institutional policies.

Nursing Informatics

  • You will demonstrate the ability to incorporate nursing informatics using available institutional software.
  • Enabling easy data generation and analysis for patient care.

Confidentiality

  • You will demonstrate the ability to ensure absolute privacy and security of protected health information during daily hospital operations.

What You Bring to the Role

Qualifications & Registration

  • A bachelor’s degree in general nursing.
  • A GCNM recognised Postgraduate Certificate in Emergency nursing, Critical nursing, or Perioperative nursing gives you an added advantage.
  • A Certificate of Registration from the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
  • A valid practicing license (PIN).
  • A commitment to renew your license periodically as required by law.

Experience

  • Five years of post bachelor’s working experience.
  • An additional two years of post GCNM qualification working experience gives you an added advantage.

Clinical Skills

  • Basic surgical skills for handling minor procedures.
  • In hospital emergency response management with competencies in administering BLS, ALS, and ATLS.
  • Clinical nursing knowledge for assessing and planning care.
  • Emergency and trauma care expertise.
  • Handling injuries including fractures, burns, and crush injuries.
  • CPR and life support (BLS or ACLS certification preferred).
  • Stabilizing patients before evacuation.
