Ghana Rolls Out e-Visa Platform, Releases Fee Structure and ETA Guidelines

Ghana is preparing an important digital immigration upgrade aimed at simplifying travel procedures for international visitors worldwide. Authorities recently opened access to the country’s new electronic visa platform before its official nationwide launch. Consequently, travellers can now explore visa requirements, application procedures, and updated travel authorisation guidelines online.

Ghana Introduces A Fully Digital Visa System

Ghana officially opened access to its new electronic visa platform ahead of the expected May 25, 2026 launch. The Ghana Immigration Service operates the system with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nationwide. Authorities designed the platform to simplify visa applications while reducing paperwork for international travellers visiting Ghana regularly. Additionally, applicants can complete most immigration procedures online without visiting embassies or consular offices physically.

Travellers using the platform can check eligibility requirements, create accounts, complete forms, and upload supporting documents electronically. Furthermore, applicants may pay visa fees online while monitoring application progress through secure digital tracking services. Once authorities approve applications, travellers receive electronic visas directly through email for convenient immigration processing afterward.

Visitors may either present digital copies or carry printed versions during arrival procedures within Ghana officially. Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, previously confirmed Cabinet approval for the electronic visa system during April 2026.

Ghana Announces Electronic Visa Fees

The newly released electronic visa fees quickly attracted attention because charges appear higher than many African competitors currently. Additionally, fast-track visa processing options include significantly increased fees depending upon selected processing timelines. Single-entry electronic visas processed within seventy-two hours currently cost two hundred sixty United States dollars officially. Priority single-entry processing completed within forty-eight hours currently costs three hundred thirty-eight United States dollars.

Meanwhile, express single-entry processing completed within five hours currently costs four hundred forty-two United States dollars. Multiple-entry electronic visas processed within seventy-two hours currently require four hundred sixty-eight United States dollars.

Priority multiple-entry processing completed within forty-eight hours currently costs six hundred eight United States dollars officially. Furthermore, express multiple-entry processing completed within five hours currently costs seven hundred ninety-six United States dollars. However, authorities explained that official visa charges could still change before the system launches fully later this month.

Several Visa Categories Become Available Online

Ghana’s updated immigration system covers several travel categories beyond ordinary tourism visa applications currently available online. Authorities confirmed that applicants may now apply electronically for business, student, family visit, transit, and work visas. Additionally, diplomatic and official visa applications also appear within the newly introduced online immigration platform officially. Consequently, Ghana plans moving most immigration procedures into digital systems for improved efficiency and accessibility nationwide.

Important Documents Travellers Must Prepare

Travellers applying for Ghanaian electronic visas must still prepare supporting documents before completing online immigration applications successfully. Tourist visa applicants usually need passport biodata pages, recent passport photographs, and confirmed accommodation details.

Additionally, authorities may request return flight bookings, travel insurance records, and yellow fever vaccination certificates during application reviews. Business travellers often require invitation letters, mission letters, financial proof, and company registration documentation afterward. Applicants may also provide return or onward travel tickets before authorities approve business visa applications successfully online.

Ghana Plans Free ETA For Some African Travellers

Ghana also announced plans introducing free Electronic Travel Authorisation for selected African travellers beginning May 25, 2026. According to information currently displayed online, travellers from ECOWAS countries and African Union member states may qualify.

Additionally, some Caribbean nationals could also receive free Electronic Travel Authorisation instead of traditional visa requirements afterward. However, eligible travellers must still complete online applications and receive official approval before travelling to Ghana. Authorities expect the official launch later this month to confirm eligible nationalities and validity periods completely nationwide.

Conclusion

Ghana’s new electronic visa platform represents an important step toward faster and more convenient international travel procedures nationwide. The online system could simplify immigration applications while improving accessibility for tourists, students, workers, and business travellers. Ultimately, travellers should carefully review visa fees, Electronic Travel Authorisation rules, and document requirements before visiting Ghana.
