Study in Australia | University of Sydney Scholarship 2026
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney is now offering the Faculty of Engineering International Tuition Fee Research Scholarships for the 2026 intakes. This award provides financial support to outstanding international students pursuing higher degree research studies. If you aim to excel in your research journey, this opportunity deserves your full attention.
The scholarship covers your academic tuition fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee. This support removes two major financial barriers, allowing you to focus entirely on your research without worrying about mounting educational costs.
The Financial Package: What You Receive
The scholarship delivers structured financial support tailored to your degree level. Here is exactly what successful candidates gain:
- PhD Recipients: You receive coverage of academic course fees and the SSAF for up to 12 research periods. The university may extend this by two additional research periods based on your satisfactory academic performance. This gives you up to 14 research periods of funded study if you maintain strong progress.
- Master’s by Research Recipients: You receive coverage of academic course fees and the SSAF for up to four research periods. The university offers no extension beyond this duration, so you must complete your program within this timeframe.
- Fee Coverage Only: The scholarship covers tuition and the student services fee. It does not include a living stipend. You must secure your living expenses through other means, which we will address in the eligibility section.
Eligibility: Who Qualifies
The scholarship targets a specific group of international researchers. You must meet every criterion below to enter the applicant pool:
- Citizenship: You must hold international student status. Australian domestic students do not qualify for this particular award.
- Admission Offer: You must hold an unconditional admission offer for a full time PhD or master’s by research program within the Faculty of Engineering. For PhD applicants, you must intend to transfer to the PhD program after your first progress review interview.
- Stipend Source: You must provide evidence that your living stipend allowance comes from a third party sponsor or from university funding. This scholarship covers tuition only, so you need separate arrangements for your day to day expenses.
- RTP Application: You must apply for and receive consideration for a Research Training Program Scholarship International. This serves as a prerequisite for this award.
- No Overlapping Awards: You cannot already hold an RTP or equivalent primary scholarship that provides academic course fees. This scholarship serves as an alternative for those who need tuition coverage but have stipend support elsewhere.
How to Apply
The application process follows a clear sequence. Complete each step in order to ensure full consideration.
- Step 1: Apply for Admission. Start by applying for a full time PhD or master’s by research program within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. Submit your application through the standard admissions portal. Ensure you meet all academic and language requirements. Wait for an unconditional offer before proceeding to the next step.
- Step 2: Apply for RTP Scholarship. Once you have applied for your program, submit an application for the Research Training Program Scholarship International. This step is mandatory. The university will not consider you for the Faculty of Engineering award without this application on file.
- Step 3: Express Your Interest. If you meet all eligibility criteria and have evidence of your stipend being paid by a third party sponsor or through university funding, reach out to the Engineering HDR team. Send your expression of interest to engineering.hdr@sydney.edu.au. Include your unconditional offer details and proof of your stipend arrangements.
- Step 4: Complete the Process. The HDR team will review your materials and guide you through any additional steps. They will confirm your eligibility and process your scholarship application.
Application Deadline
The University of Sydney accepts applications on an ongoing basis. There is no fixed closing date for this scholarship round. However, you should apply as early as possible. Research periods fill quickly, and funding availability may vary throughout the year. Submitting your materials promptly gives you the best chance of securing this valuable tuition support.
