Tianjin University International Student Scholarship

Study in China | Tianjin University International Student Scholarship 2026

Do you dream of earning your bachelor’s degree at one of China’s most prestigious institutions? Tianjin University, a respected research powerhouse with over a century of academic excellence, has officially opened applications for its International Student Scholarship for the 2026 intake. This opportunity targets non-Chinese nationals seeking a full undergraduate education across a wide range of programs taught in either Chinese or English.

With tuition subsidies reaching up to 20,000 RMB and monthly living stipends available, this scholarship offers a concrete funding pathway into a top tier Chinese university. No vague promises or hidden fine print here—just real financial support for deserving international students.

The Financial Breakdown: Four Tiers of Support

The Tianjin University scholarship runs for one academic year and comes in four distinct funding tiers. Each tier provides different levels of support, allowing you to understand exactly what you will receive.

  • Type A: You receive a 20,000 RMB tuition subsidy plus a 1,400 RMB monthly living allowance paid over 10 months. This totals 14,000 RMB in living support annually, giving you substantial financial breathing room.
  • Type B: You receive a 20,000 RMB tuition subsidy with no living allowance attached. This award wipes out most or all of your tuition for the first year.
  • Type C: You receive a 10,000 RMB tuition subsidy to offset your educational costs.
  • Type D: You receive a 6,000 RMB tuition subsidy as direct support for your studies.

For context, annual tuition at Tianjin University runs 16,600 RMB for Chinese taught general programs and 20,000 RMB for English taught ones. Specialty programs like Architecture and Software Engineering cost 26,000 RMB. A Type A or Type B award can therefore cover nearly all your tuition expenses.

Beyond tuition, you need to budget for insurance at 800 RMB per year and on campus dormitory rates between 15 and 60 RMB per bed per day. Admitted students also pay a one time 420 RMB application fee and a 7,000 RMB pre registration deposit after acceptance. The university distributes scholarship slots across individual schools, and each school has a limited quota. This scarcity explains why the official guidance strongly encourages early applications.

Eligibility: Who Qualifies for This Opportunity

This scholarship welcomes international students entering a four or five year bachelor’s program. You qualify if you meet every condition below:

  • Citizenship: You hold a non-Chinese passport and valid citizenship in a country other than China.
  • Age: You have completed high school and are under 25 years old at the time of application. If you are under 18 as of September 1, 2026, you must provide an original guardian certificate from the Tianjin District Notary Office, and your guardian must be a permanent Tianjin resident.
  • Language Proficiency: For Chinese taught programs, you need an HSK 5 score of 180 or above. Alternatively, you can use an HSK 4 score of 180 or above if applying through the School of International Education. Native Chinese speakers and those who completed high school in Chinese are exempt. For English taught programs, you need IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 at minimum. Native English speakers are exempt, and those who studied high school in English can submit a certificate of English medium instruction instead.
  • Special Cases: Former Chinese citizens who naturalized elsewhere must meet additional documentation requirements under China’s Ministry of Education regulations.
  • Character: You must be in good health, have no criminal record, and willingly comply with Chinese law and university regulations.

The Application Process: Four Clear Stages

Your journey from applicant to admitted student at Tianjin University follows four distinct stages. Each stage has clear requirements and checkpoints.

  • Stage 1: The CSCA Exam. Before you touch the online application, you must sit the China Scholastic Competency Assessment organized by the China Scholarship Council. Check test dates and subject requirements at www.csca.cn. Take it early, as your score heavily influences how the university evaluates your academic readiness.
  • Stage 2: Online Submission. Head to Tianjin University’s International Student Service System at tju.at0086.cn/student. Fill out your profile and upload every required document. You will need your high school diploma, notarized transcripts, CSCA results, valid passport copy, language certificates, a detailed resume, a 600 word study plan, a physical examination form, a non criminal record certificate, proof of financial support, and the university’s scholarship application form.
  • Stage 3: The Interview. If your file clears initial review, the university invites you to an interview. This conversation assesses your overall profile and, for Chinese taught tracks, your Chinese language ability.
  • Stage 4: Confirmation and Payment. Accepted students pay the 7,000 RMB deposit and 420 RMB application fee by the deadline. Once payment arrives, Tianjin University issues your electronic Admission Notice and visa form in July. Note that the deposit is non refundable if you later withdraw.
