Job Description

And at JD-Link Oil Company Limited, those trucks run because of the expertise and leadership of our mechanical team. We are currently seeking a seasoned and highly skilled Chief Mechanic to take full ownership of our hauling fleet.

This is not a typical garage supervisor role. This is a high stakes position for a seasoned professional who understands that every minute a truck spends off the road is a minute our operations feel the pressure. Responsibilities

As our Chief Mechanic, you will step beyond basic repairs. You will become the strategic leader of our maintenance division. Your primary goal is to ensure maximum vehicle availability, meaning you will need to think ahead, act decisively, and solve complex mechanical puzzles under pressure. You will bridge the gap between technical know-how and operational strategy.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Strategic Fleet Maintenance & Leadership

  • Lead from the Front: You will oversee and actively participate in the maintenance and repair of our entire hauling fleet, which includes heavy-duty trucks, tankers, and trailers. Your expertise will set the standard for the team.
  • Champion Safety & Efficiency: You will conduct rigorous inspections and implement quality checks to guarantee every vehicle meets the highest safety standards before it hits the road. Reliability is non-negotiable.
  • Master Diagnostic Problem Solving: When a complex issue arises, you will be the final authority. You will diagnose challenging mechanical and electrical faults, plan the most effective repair strategy, and ensure the job is done right the first time.
  • Mentor and Manage Technicians: You will lead a team of mechanics and technicians. This means assigning work, providing technical guidance, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and accountability in the workshop.
  • Design Preventive Programmes: You will develop and enforce a rigorous preventive maintenance schedule. Your foresight will help us avoid costly breakdowns and extend the lifespan of our valuable assets.
  • Control Parts Inventory & Budgets: You will take charge of the parts inventory, ensuring we have critical spares in stock without tying up excessive capital. You will also manage maintenance budgets, finding smart ways to control costs while maintaining quality.

Navigating Real World Challenges

  • Adapt to Rugged Conditions: You understand that trucks operate in demanding environments. You will devise maintenance strategies that account for these realities, focusing on durability and resilience.
  • Source Parts Locally & Strategically: You will leverage your experience to source quality parts locally whenever possible, reducing lead times and minimizing downtime. You know where to find the best components and how to avoid counterfeits.
  • Minimize Downtime Aggressively: Time is money. You will implement workshop processes that prioritize speed without sacrificing quality, getting our fleet back in operation as quickly and safely as possible.

The Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a battle-tested professional. This role requires a specific blend of deep technical knowledge, proven leadership, and the practical wisdom that only comes with decades of experience.

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive, hands-on experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance, with at least several years in a supervisory or lead mechanic capacity.
  • A Degree in Auto Mechanical Engineering or a related field. This combination of formal education and practical experience is essential.
  • Deep, demonstrable proficiency with the specific makes that power our fleet: DAF, MAN, and HOWO trucks. You must know these engines, transmissions, and systems inside and out.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, not just with software but with your senses and experience. You can often hear or feel a problem before it appears on a screen.
  • Proven budget management and inventory control skills. You understand the financial side of running an efficient workshop.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to direct a team and report clearly to management.
