As an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices, we complement the Ministry of Health in providing quality, affordable general health and SRH services across all regions of Ghana. Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and values-driven professional to fill the position of Director of Medical Services. This is a senior leadership role and a key position on our Senior Management Team. You will report directly to the Country Director and serve as the principal authority on all clinical matters.

As the head of the Medical Development Team, you will set the clinical vision and direction for all our service delivery channels. These include static centers, outreach programs, and public sector health system strengthening initiatives. Your primary goal is to ensure that every clinical service we provide meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and client-centered care. Moreover, you will align these services with our mission, organizational objectives, and financial sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as Director of Medical Services will be broad and impactful. You will split your time between strategic leadership, quality assurance, and team development.

Strategic and Technical Clinical Leadership:

  • You will provide strategic clinical leadership as a member of the Senior Management Team. Your voice will shape organizational decisions.
  • You will set, review, and implement MSIG’s clinical strategy across all service delivery channels, ensuring alignment with our mission.
  • You will lead the development and implementation of medical policies, standards, and protocols, ensuring compliance with MSI, Ghana Health Service, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will serve as the principal authority on clinical governance, quality assurance, and clinical risk management.
  • You will maintain strong engagement with the Ghana Health Service, regulators, professional bodies, and SRH stakeholders.
  • You will represent MSIG in media engagements and public forums on clinical and SRH issues as appropriate.
  • You will establish and maintain a functional Medical Advisory Team in line with MSI policies.
  • You will lead clinical innovation and service expansion aligned with our mission and sustainability goals.
  • You will oversee the management and reporting of all clinical incidents in compliance with MSI policies.
  • You will maintain close communication with the MSI Medical Development Team and disseminate clinical updates to MSIG teams.
  • You will remain clinically current and, when required, support service delivery and training activities.

Quality Assurance and Clinical Risk Management:

  • You will monitor and continuously improve quality performance across all service delivery channels using dashboards and reports.
  • You will ensure prompt and effective response to medical emergencies, complications, and logistical challenges.
  • You will oversee annual internal and external Quality Technical Assessments in line with MSI procedures.
  • You will track and ensure implementation of agreed action plans and quality improvement measures.
  • You will ensure that assessment findings and lessons learned are effectively communicated across the organization.
  • You will oversee medical supplies, emergency preparedness, and client safety systems.
  • You will ensure robust clinical incident reporting systems and regular review of trends and learning.

Departmental Leadership and Capacity Building:

  • You will lead, mentor, and develop the Medical Development Team, fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
  • You will set and monitor departmental KPIs and performance objectives for your direct reports.
  • You will oversee recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and professional development of clinical staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • You will ensure the Medical Development Team structure, roles, and resources remain fit for purpose and aligned with programmatic needs.
  • You will promote strong collaboration with other departments to support organizational goals.
  • You will support clinical research, learning, and innovation initiatives.
  • You will promote continuous professional development and knowledge sharing within the clinical teams.

Required Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this pivotal role, you must combine advanced medical qualifications with extensive leadership experience. We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

Educational Background:

  • An advanced degree in Medicine with a Public Health specialty is required.
  • You must hold a valid professional license and provide evidence of good standing with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health programs is essential.
  • You must have strong clinical governance, supervisory, and quality assurance experience.
  • Proven oversight of multi-site clinical networks is required.
  • Experience in service expansion and integration of new SRH services is highly desirable.
  • You must demonstrate high-level competence in SRH clinical procedures, including Manual Vacuum Aspiration, medical abortion, IUCD insertion, implants, tubal ligation, and vasectomy.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and performance management skills are critical.
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated cultural sensitivity to SRH issues are essential.
  • You must be unequivocally pro-choice, aligning with our organizational values.
