About Role
Reporting to the Senior Engineer (EI&C), the Senior Instrumentation Technician will play a critical leadership role in maintaining, optimizing, and upgrading field instrumentation systems within the pulp mill operations. The position combines hands-on technical expertise with project leadership, shutdown coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will ensure the reliability, safety, and accuracy of complex measurement and control systems that directly support large-scale production processes. The role also requires close collaboration with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to enhance plant efficiency and compliance with Australian standards.

Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of field instrumentation and electrical systems
- Lead instrumentation upgrades, system installations, and integration projects
- Coordinate and supervise instrumentation activities during major shutdowns
- Ensure compliance with Australian safety and environmental standards
- Develop and implement maintenance regimes for control valves and instrumentation assets
- Manage spare parts inventory and create stock codes within ERP systems
- Review and update inspection test plans and maintenance documentation
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to junior technicians
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize process control systems
- Supervise contractors to ensure quality execution and compliance
Requirements
- 10–15 years of hands-on instrumentation experience within paper manufacturing or heavy process industries
- Strong expertise in control valves, actuators, transmitters, and radiation-based instrumentation
- Knowledge of gas burners and hazardous area instrumentation systems
- Experience with continuous emissions monitoring systems
- Understanding of PLC, DCS, and integrated process control systems
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Relevant trade qualification or degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Eligibility for Australian visa sponsorship under subclass 186 or 482
