5 STRATEGIES TO ENSURE YOUR RELATIONSHIP SURVIVES LONG TERM WORK FROM HOME

You may have always wanted to spend more time with your partner. But working from home in the long term has never been what you had in mind. In order to maintain the spark you have for each other and maintain a healthy relationship, it is important to find ways of coping with your partner from the stress you both face after walking all day from home.

For your relationship to survive, you need to prioritize completing your work task successfully, having alone time with your partner, and having time for yourself as well.
Here are some strategies to help you create an excellent outcome for your relationship while working from home.

1 . MAKE SURE TO ESTABLISH AND RESPECT BOUNDARIES

Setting boundaries will help maintain peace in your home. Set boundaries when it is time for work so you can be efficient and deliver on the job. It is important you let your significant other know how you work. If you prefer silence, you can alert your partner to put on their headphones so you don’t get distracted.

You can also create boundaries by adapting to each other’s work ethics and disciplining yourself. Again, it is essential your partner knows the time they can interrupt you and when not to. Ensure that these boundaries do not become walls but rather one that will give you something to look forward to after the close of the day.

2 . DESIGNATE WORKING SPACE FOR YOUR SELVES

Both you and your partner need to have your own workstation where you will be comfortable and have access to your tools easily. One can choose the kitchen, while another chooses the living room. You should treat each others work station like you will do to a colleague at work. Don’t think of it as a shared place.

3 . TAKE BREAKS ON YOUR OWN

Although the both of you are working from home, you don’t need to constantly be in their face. The temptation to connect whenever you are not busy is very high, take some alone time for yourself. Taking breaks separately reduces any tension that has happened.

4 . CREATE A MEANINGFUL AND INTERESTING ROUTINE

Find exciting ways you can transition from work to home. If your normal routine was to have breakfast together or give each other kisses, just do so. You can also dress up for work and change into casual clothes once you are done with your work for the day.

5 . SET YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS

Last but not least, your relationship can thrive when you both support each other. It is important that you respect each other’s profession and not make it feel like one is more important than the other. Never demean your partner’s capability in the role they find themselves in.
