5 list of oil companies across Africa with largest employment

An oil company is a business organisation that engages in the exploration, refinement, production and distribution of oil.

Oil companies are amongst the world’s largest companies because oil remains a dominant source of energy globally. Our dependence  on oil as a world continues to increase as most economies depend heavily on Petroleum-based products.

There are more than 200 oil companies worldwide but this article contains a list of the top five companies in Africa.

1 . Firstly, SHELL

To begin with, Shell Group is a global organisation of energy and petrochemical companies that explores, produces, refines and markets oil and natural gas. It forms part of the top six publicly traded oil and gas companies. The company aims to provide clean energy by using an  innovative approach. Shell is operates in over 70 countries with Africa being part and has 82,000 employees.

In 2021, the company produced and sold 64.2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas. In terms of revenue the company raked in $261,504 billion in revenue. Shell was established in 1907 and has it headquarters in Hague, Netherlands.

2 . Secondly, TOTAL

Also, Total is a multinational oil and gas company that produces and markets energy  on a large scale. The company is part of the top oil companies in the world. Total can be found in over 130 countries and has offered employment to a 100,000 employees.

The French multinational company has different businesses ranging from crude oil and natural gas exploration and production to power generation, transportation, refining, petroleum product marketing, and international crude oil as well as product trading.

In 2021, the company raked in revenue worth 205.86 billion U.S. dollars. The total was established in 1924 by Ernest Mercier and has its headquarters at Courbevoie, France. Some of its subsidiaries include Total Gas & Power, SunPower, Lampiris and the list goes on.

3 . Thirdly, EXXONMOBIL

Aside from the above, ExxonMobil is an American multinational oil and gas company. It is the largest oil company that is not owned by a government. The company uses innovative means to meet the world ‘s demands for energy. The company has also employed over 4000 Africans and has about 67,000 employees worldwide.

Similarly, as of 2021, the company raked in revenue of US$276.692 billion. The multinational company was established in 1999 and based in Texas.

4 . Last but least, CHEVRON

This is an oil company that is based in California. It has a presence in more than 180 countries and offered employment to 42,595. Likewise, the revenue earned by the company amounts to US$162.47 billion.

5 . Lastly, ENI

It is an Italian firm that produces oil and gas and has it headquarters in Rome. It is among the seven major oil companies in the world. Eni is operated in over 69 countries and has an employee database of 32,689. The company earns 76.58 billion EUR as revenue.
