Flight Booking Tricks I Wish I Knew

In this article, we’ll share with you some flight-booking advice we’ve gleaned through our three years of travel blogging. Please take note that we have previously written a separate post regarding promo fare advice, thus we are not included it here.

1. Use Skyscanner’s SEARCH EVERYWHERE feature

A travel comparison website called Skyscanner compiles flight costs from all over the world so you can simply compare and select. We automatically type in both our starting point and our desired destination when searching. But Skyscanner has a feature that is frequently ignored. Simply touch or type EVERYWHERE in the Destination field if you haven’t decided where you’re going yet and want to see where you can travel to for the cheapest fare.

When you click search, all flights departing from your origin will be checked. For instance, if you’re traveling out of Manila and you type in EVERYWHERE, it will provide a list of the countries and cities with the cheapest flight prices.

2. Use flight comparison sites

Speaking of Skyscanner, it’s also a smart habit to use flight comparison websites even if you already know where you’re going. When looking for flights in the past, I would personally visit each airline’s website one at a time. But with to the abundance of aggregators like Skyscanner, Kayak, and Traveloka as well as airline alliances like Value Alliance, it is now lot simpler.

3. Set up price alerts on your phone

These websites are fantastic since they can display cross-airline flights even when there are no code-sharing agreements. Take flying from Manila to Sapporo, Japan, as an illustration. The system can also offer choices when the two legs of the flight are operated by different airlines, which is less expensive than connecting flights from the same airline (which are frequently pricey) (which often end up cheaper).

Set up a price alert if you’ve had your eye on a certain route but the fare is just too expensive for you; that way, you’ll be informed whenever the fare decreases. Both Traveloka and Skyscanner offer this function.

4. Join travel groups on Facebook

How far crowdsourcing can get you will amaze you! There are countless travel groups on Facebook, and its members are always exchanging advice, tricks, and scoops! We have a Facebook support group, and frequently, before official announcements from airlines appear in my news feed, I find out about seat sales via the group’s members.

Not just seat sales, either. Here, a lot of unknown or obscure promotions are frequently published along with images of their reservations. That’s not all, though.

A significant system error occurred on a website for booking international flights a few years back. It was initially shared on a private Facebook group, but it quickly circulated to other groups.

For less than P500, a few of my pals were able to reserve round-trip flights to Australia and the Maldives! The business honored these erroneous reservations.

Funny thing is, a lot of my pals were in the Maldives during a weekend! The Facebook groups are helpful.

5. Consider nearby airports

We encountered a challenge when backpacking through Europe. We had to take a journey to Athens in order to catch our flight back to Poland from Krakow. Sadly, after looking on numerous days, we were unable to locate inexpensive flights from the Krakow Airport to Athens. Even those that require a stopover in a different city were completely out of our price range.

Having given up, I was about to purchase an expensive airfare when I realized that Skyscanner had a small checkbox labelled Add nearby airports immediately below the Origin column.
