5 AFRICAN COUNTRIES WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF INTERNET USERS IN 2022

Over the years, there has been regular use of the internet worldwide, and one continent is expected to see major growth in the area of technology in Africa.

Experts say the value of Africa’s internet economy will double over the next three years than the current estimate of US$115 billion with Mobile phones playing a key role to its expansion.

WHICH COUNTRIES HAVE THE MOST USERS

When it comes to those who use the internet, there are countries that have more users than others. However, the number of people online does not mirror that country’s overall connectivity.

Here is a look at some African countries with the highest number of internet users together with their internet penetration(the number of internet users by the total population). This is according to a report from DataReportal.

1 . Firstly, NIGERIA

Nigeria is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. About 50 percent of the population use the internet while 90 percent have a mobile phone. As of January 2022, there were 109.2 million internet users in Nigeria.

The country’s rate of internet penetration stood at 51.0 percent of the total population at the beginning of 2022. An analysis from Kepios shows that there was an increase in internet users in Nigeria by 4.8 million between 2021 and 2022.

2 . Secondly, EGYPT

The number of internet users in Egypt as of January 2022 was 75.66 million. The country’s internet penetration rate stood at 71.9 percent of the total population. Analysis indicates that the number of internet users increased by 1.4 million between the year 2021 to 2022.

3 . Thirdly, SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has a total of 41.19 million internet users at the start of the year 2022. The internet penetration rate is 68.2 percent of the total population. A total of 28 million citizens are said to be using social media.

4 . Also, MOROCCO

There were 31.59 million internet users in Morocco in January 2022. Morocco’s internet penetration rate stood at 84.1 percent of the total population at the start of 2022.

5 . Lastly, ETHIOPIA

As of January 2022 was 29.83 million internet users in Ethiopia. The internet penetration rate stood at 25.0 percent of the total population at the start of 2022.
