The AB Wilh. Becker’s Jubilee Fund was established in March 1990 with a generous donation from AB Wilh. Becker is committed to developing Ph.D. studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the field of chemistry, with a focus on materials technology for coatings.
The Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology’s Division of Coating Technology is offering a scholarship that supports the goals of the foundation. The doctoral studies will be conducted in the bustling Division of Coating Technology, which has three professors, one associate professor, two researchers, and a lively group of twenty postdocs, doctoral candidates, and diploma workers.
Our research focuses on improving polymer synthesis, which includes conventional coating applications, surface modifications of biomedical materials, and various other fields. Enhancing the use of renewable raw materials in organic coatings is the main goal of the current research. The doctoral candidate chosen as a result of this announcement will be under the primary supervision of Professor Mats Johansson.
The Scholarship’s details
The planned start-up will occur in the fourth quarter of 2023. The scholarship is initially awarded for a period of two years, with the possibility of an additional two-year extension to cover the entirety of a PhD degree.
- The duration of this scholarship is full-time involvement.
- Accepted Fellows: KTH is only accepting one fellow.
- Scholarship Amount: A monthly scholarship of SEK 29,300 is provided.
- The program is headquartered in Stockholm.
EU nationals who receive scholarships or private support must show confirmation of comprehensive medical and health insurance, or EHIC, from their home country, which must cover the duration of their stay in Sweden.
If you don’t present this certificate, your stay in Sweden may be limited to three months, and you won’t be able to apply to become a resident of Sweden.

Qualification Standards:
KTH is looking for a highly motivated candidate who aims to lead research and create cutting-edge, useful biobased materials specifically suited to the field of coating technology’s future requirements. You will be admitted as a doctorate student to the doctorate Program in Chemical Science with a focus on Fibre and Polymer Science.
Also, you must have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline and an outstanding academic record to be accepted to KTH’s postgraduate programs. You must also be tenacious, goal-oriented, and research-oriented.
The exact qualifications for this post are a master’s degree in polymer technology, macromolecular materials, soft materials, or the equivalent. It is also preferable to have solid skills in analytical chemistry, surface and colloid chemistry, wood chemistry, coating chemistry, and polymer chemistry. Additionally desirable is prior laboratory job experience.
