2024 African Union Youth Volunteer Corps

Applications are now being accepted for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps 2024, a premier continental youth leadership initiative that will train and place young African professionals from all 55 AU Member States to work as professional volunteers for a year.

By strengthening their involvement in policies, programs, and initiatives, AUYVC promotes volunteering to further establish young Africans as major actors in the continent’s development targets and goals.

Criteria for Eligibility

Those interested in applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps 2024 must fulfill the requirements listed below:

• A resident of one of the AU’s member states, either on the continent or in the Diaspora.
• Aged 18 to 35 (must be under 35 after completing 12 months of service).
• Possess postsecondary credentials (TVET, a bachelor’s or master’s degree, etc.).
• Able to commit 12 (twelve) months in 2023 or 2024 to professional volunteer work.
• Be open to relocating to and working in another AU Member State.
• Is fluent in at least one of the official languages of the AU, which are Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, and Spanish.
• Has at least a year of professional work experience and a year of verifiable volunteer activity.

Concerning the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps

A continental development initiative known as AU-YVC works with young people as volunteers in all 54 African Union nations.

In order to strengthen young people’s standing as integral contributors to achieving Africa’s human development targets and goals, AU-YVC promotes volunteering. In the presence of the H.E. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ministers of Youth from throughout the AU, high-level AU representatives, Partners and other Volunteer Organizations, and Africa’s Youth at large, AU-YVC was formally inaugurated on December 3rd, 2010 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mission of the AU-YVC

– Involve Africa’s youth in the development of the continent through meaningful youth involvement through service to the continent;

– Give young Africans the chance to serve while gaining valuable leadership experience, soft skills, social awareness, and professional experience;

– Encourage the next generation to embrace Pan-Africanism and shared values.

The Ability to Serve

Helping development: Assume that over the course of a year, a young person who volunteers in their community by using their knowledge and skills—for example, by teaching English and math at a rural high school or working in a neighborhood health center—has given the community an average of 2,160 hours of service. The impact that a large group of young people willing to serve can have over a short period of time goes without saying.

Inter-African missions have traditionally only sent peacekeeping forces to regions at risk of conflict or civil upheaval. In their separate nations, African troops have significantly contributed to maintaining peace and security for their brethren and sisters. African Youth can once more be deployed to contribute their services in supporting development and achieving the common destiny of a wealthy and peaceful continent, as the AU-YVC strives to replicate this momentum to a civilian environment.

Developing Youth:

Volunteering is a difficult task that requires leadership abilities to master once on a mission abroad. The mission of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC) is to develop a generation of African leaders who are eager to serve their continent and its people, informed about African dynamics, and bold enough to take the lead and embark on a risky journey of developing both themselves and their continent through service.
