2022/2023 UMaT Postgraduate Admission Forms and how to apply. | The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Admission Forms for Postgraduate Studies for the Academic 2022/2023 Year have been released.
University of Mines and Technology admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year is open.
Therefore, the University announces to the general public the sales of admission forms for Degree and Non Degree programs. The sale of admission forms is open to the general public from April and ends in December this year.
To begin with, UMaT MSc AND MPhil Program Entry Requirements
1 . Firstly, MSc / MPhil in Geomatic Engineering
- Interested applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Geomatic or Geodetic Engineering or its equivalent in Earth Sciences and related Engineering programs from an accredited university.
- However, holders of the UMaT Diploma in Earth Sciences must hold senior positions in a relevant industry. In addition to that must have a minimum working experience of 5 years as well as proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
2 . Secondly, MSc / MPhil in Geological Engineering
- Similarly, applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or its equivalent in Earth Sciences and related Engineering programs from a recognized university.
- Again, holders of the UMaT Diploma in Earth Sciences must hold senior positions in a relevant industry. Additionally, must have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
3 . Third, MSc / MPhil in Mining Engineering
- Also, candidates must hold BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Mining Engineering, relevant Engineering, or Earth Sciences from an accredited University.
- However, holders of the UMaT Diploma must have at least 5 years of professional experience. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
4 . Also, MSc / MPhil in Mineral Engineering
- Similarly, applicants must hold a BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or it’s equivalent in Applied Sciences and related engineering programs.
- Also, holders of the UMaT Diploma in Earth Sciences must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.

5 . Alternatively, MSc/MPhil in Petroleum Engineering
- A BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or it’s equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering degrees from a recognized University.
- However, other applicants who do not satisfy the requirements of (i) above but have petroleum–related degrees from a recognized University may be eligible after careful consideration of the background and relevant documents.
- Again, applicants who do not have Petroleum Engineering will, upon admission, be required to take and pass three (3) non-scoring introductory modules as a prerequisite for the main Petroleum Engineering modules.
6 . Correspondingly, MSc/MPhil in Mechanical Engineering
- Also, applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Engineering. And must be from a recognised university.
- Again, holders of UMaT Diploma in Mine Mechanical Engineering or Earth Sciences and related Engineering programmes who hold senior positions in an appropriate industry. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
7 . Apart from the above, MSc/MPhil in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Candidates must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or it’s equivalent in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or in related Engineering disciplines from a recognized University.
- Also, holders of the UMaT Diploma in Mine Electrical Engineering must hold senior positions in an appropriate industry. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
8 . Besides the list above, MSc/MPhil in Mathematics (with Specialisation in Computational Mathematics/Statistics/Financial Engineering)
The Department offers three Master’s Degree Programmes. They are:
- First, Master’s Programme in Financial Engineering
- Secondly, Masters Programme in Computational Mathematics
- Then, Master’s Programme in Statistics
- Accordingly, applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, and Engineering from a recognized university.
- However, applicants who do not satisfy (i) above but have degrees in Mathematics, Statistics with Economics, any Engineering field, or other related physical sciences and are adjudged suitable by the departmental board may be interviewed.
9 . Last but Not Least, Master of Business and Technology Management (with specialization in Finance and Investments / Supply Chain Management / Management Information Systems)
- First, applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper/Lower Division) or its equivalent in Business, Social and Physical Sciences, Technology and Engineering related programs.
- However, applicants with UMaT Diploma in Earth Sciences must have at least five (5) years of professional experience. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission.
- Again, candidates shall pass an interview before admission.
Kindly note that this is a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) program.
10. Lastly, MSc Engineering Management
- First, candidates must hold a BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper/Lower Division) or its equivalent in Business, Social and Physical Sciences, Technology and Engineering related programs.
- Again, applicants with UMaT Diploma in Earth Sciences must have at least five (5) years
of professional experience. Additionally, must have proven ability in their discipline to be eligible for admission. - All candidates shall pass an interview before admission.
Also, this is a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) program

Secondly, UMaT PhD Program Entry Requirements
1 . To begin with, Ph.D. in Geomatic Engineering
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent, from an accredited
institution and should submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake
the proposed program.
2 . Secondly, Ph.D. in Geological Engineering
- Also, applicants must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent, from a recognized
institution and must submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake
the proposed program.
3 . Thirdly, Ph.D. in Mining Engineering
- Again, applicants must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent, from a recognized
institution. Additionally, must submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed program.
4 . Also, Ph.D. in Minerals Engineering
- Interested applicants shall hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent, from a recognized
institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake
the proposed program.
5 . Finally, PhD in Mathematics
- Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Mathematics (with specialization in Statistics, Computational, and Financial Engineering) or it’s equivalent from a recognized institution. Also, applicants must submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed program.
- Again, candidates who do not satisfy the requirements stated above but are otherwise adjudged suitable, may be admitted.
Kindly Take Note:
Ph.D. candidates who do not have a Master’s degree shall first register for a master’s
degree by research. If they prove themselves to be of sufficient caliber by the end of the first year of the program, they may be recommended to register for the Ph.D. degree. For this reason, the registration shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the Master’s degree.

- First, Full-time: A max. of 2 academic years Full-time: A max. of 3 academic years
- Secondly, Part-time: A max. of 3 academic years Part-time: A max. of 4 academic years
HOW TO APPLY
FOR APPLICANTS FROM GHANA
Applicants are required to purchase the Online Admission E-vouchers from any branch
of Access Bank, GCB Bank, Ecobank, Zenith Bank, Cal Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank,
Stanbic Bank. Also, from all Post Offices in all Regional, Municipal, and District Capitals at the cost of Two Hundred and Twenty-Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 225.00). The E-voucher will be used by the applicant as the login details on www.admissions.umat.edu.gh
FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants should follow the steps below.
1. First, applicants should fill in the online admission code request form at www. admissions.umat.edu.gh with a valid mobile number format. Eg 00233 becomes 233
2 . Afterward, the applicant will receive the Serial Number and Personal Identification Number to access the online admission system via text message and email.
3 . Then, Complete the online registration process.
4. Lastly, Print the completed form and add photocopies of relevant certificates including the original copy of the Bank Pay-in-Slip.
